Comparison, September 2026

WhatsApp & no-bank-linking expense trackers, compared honestly

There's a small but growing category of India-focused expense trackers built around one idea: log spending by texting, not by handing an app your bank login. Here's how the real options in that category actually compare — features, price, and where each one is genuinely better.

We built Xpenserbot, so read our own row with that in mind — every claim about every app below is something we could verify from that app's own site or app store listing as of September 2026, not a guess. Pricing and features change; check the source before deciding.

The comparison

"Not confirmed" means we couldn't verify that feature from the app's own public site or store listing — it may exist and simply not be advertised.

When Expensebit might be the better pick for you

If credit card tracking, recurring bill reminders, and a native app don't matter to you — and free forever (or at least "free for now") beats ₹49/month — Expensebit is a real, well-built alternative in the exact same WhatsApp-first category we're in. We'd rather say that plainly than pretend we're the only option.

When Fold or FinArt might be the better pick for you

If you'd rather have your bank, EPF, CIBIL score, and investments auto-synced without typing anything at all, Fold's Account Aggregator approach trades away the "no bank linking" privacy stance for real automation — a fair trade for some people, just not the one we're built around. FinArt takes a middle path (SMS/email auto-read, still no bank login) at a price close to ours, without the WhatsApp-chat interface.

The short version

If you want to log expenses the way you'd text a friend — no app to open, no bank password to hand over — Xpenserbot and Expensebit are the two real options built specifically for that. Between the two, it comes down to credit cards, recurring bills, and a native app (Xpenserbot) vs. free-for-now pricing (Expensebit) — bill splitting is a wash now, both support it. Everything else in this table is either a different model entirely (Fold's auto-sync) or a different price bracket (YNAB).
